Name: Rylian Zaradon
Alias: Rizardon, Time
Rank: Noble / Arcanist / Chronomancer
Age: 350
Apparent Age: mid/late 20s
Race: Alfair
Appearance:
Tall for his species, Rizardon is also thin and lanky. He wears the robes of his rank and wields a long sword and a bow. His hair is thick and stands straight up. It is blue-silver. He currently wears tinted goggles over the place his eyes used to be. Taking off his goggles reveals his recent deformation. He has no eyes at all. The flesh has grown over the eye sockets, leaving him completely blind. However, somehow, he can still see.
Personality:
Analytical and quick-minded, Rizardon is willing to see both sides of a situation. He stands up for his opinion and offers advice freely to those who listen and those who don't. Occasionally he enacts rash actions before thinking them through. Although he is adapt at melee combat, he prefers to use his arcane abilities to entrap or injure his foes. Rizardon is as eloquent as he is loquacious, a fact that bothers Kar'ras to no end, the two occasionally come to near-blows on the matter.
He has a tendency to speak in complex technical lingo others in the Company do not understand.
In Buttonwillow Rizardon found love in the form of the Elven Mage, Alondra. Although he does not know whether she shares his love, he is devoted to her mind and beauty.
Known History:
Rylian grew up in the cultured society of Vorbis, in Starlight City. His world was a world rich in magic, the energy of many kinds flowed through the land. Closets made from pocket dimensions were common place.
His childhood and early life were surrounded by eloquence and good etiquette. A gentleman among his people, he studied light sword play and arcane incantations. During his studies he gained his life-long friend and confidant in the form of the white and gray cat Selene, his familiar. He also dabbled in inventions. Whispers of a new consulate caused the politically aware Rylian to wonder. When he heard about the immanent destruction of the world, he balked at the idea of leaving. There came a great exodus of his people, leaving a scattered view both in Vorbis itself and other settlements to the North.
His realm was destroyed and he fled, drifting in the astral plane until his transport crashed near Torana. The King commissioned him with the task of preventing a war by searching out Princess Ophelia. He has learned that Kyzer indirectly caused the destruction of Vorbis by influencing the Council's decisions. He met Alondra in Buttonwillow and spent a wonderfully memorable night with her discussing arcane things and sipping wine, a memory he cherishes.
While on the Queen's Mirage, Rizardon used a flying enchantment to assist Tsar'Lena and Elias to do the "Flight of Fate". He also created lights and butterflies to further the atmosphere and mood of that night. On the Obsidian Island, Rizardon met his first death at the hands of Kyzer's Iron Golem, but was raised by Brother Royce.
When the Company rescued the Tome of Time from Kyzer, Tsar'Lena shocked everyone by showing them the author's name. Since then Rizardon has had to wrestle with the fact he is destined somehow to know enough about Time itself to write a book on it. While in the dream realm of the Overseer, Rizardon lost his eyes. He has started to study how time functions and attempts to use his new-found ability to see it, to control and manipulate it.
Rylian reviled from Valian's decision to follow through with her 'impregnation' by the spores. He was convinced they were dangerous, no matter what their appearance and demeanor. He is dubious about the result of this experiment.
Known Family Members:
Sylthiele: Older sister by several centuries and essentially his caretaker until his hundredth year when she and the rest of the Alfir left Vorbis. She is reportedly a gifted mage but a terrible cook; he has likened her venison casserole to "the putrefacted entrails of a basilisk". Her portrait, which he himself painted, hung over his mantlepiece in his Og City flat. She has long black hair and favors diaphanous clothing. If his delerious ramblings after being raised by Brother Royce are to be believed, she had a sharp temper.
Thamara: Grandmother, seer and personal friend to king Uthaelian II. She had long silver hair and favored the color blue. Thamara was the subject of the other painting found in the overseer's mockup of Rylian's flat. The Sacred Leaf, the artifact from which the name Zaradon stems, is presently in her keeping; its powers and appearance are unknown.
Ridazair: Father. A warrior and diplomat. Was sent to deliver a message to the Dark Alfir warningof Vorbis' (by elven standards) imminent destruction but was killed for his effort.
Fitria: Mother. A mage of moderate ability; slain alongside her husband.
Other Information:
Rizardon can see the flow of Time. It appears to him in strands of gray and silver.
He created the ovid-shaped trans-dimensional ship that allowed him to escape the destruction of Voorbis and later (a modified version) allowed the Company to leave the Overseer's realm.
