Name: Märin Kërkuro
Aliases: Elias Märinvale, "Mr. Hero", Seian, Eli
Rank: Sentinel of Illynallah / Ashra of the Sunlit / Toranan Ambassador to Trias / Lieutenant of Toranan military
Age: 464
Apparent Age: Mid-20s
Race: Kêrath / Human
Appearance:
Märin is an amazingly handsome individual, and due to a recent encounter, he has become even more-so. He is the type of person that turns heads of both genders when he enters a room, for sheer beauty.
Märin stands just over six feet, shorter than average for his father's people. Märin’s hair is red, near crimson (think fire engine red), with small curls here and there suggesting someone in his lineage has curly hair. There is no blond or orange in his hair. During the Company's ventures, his hair has become long enough to pull back into a 'pony-tail'; however it is still short. He keeps a trimmed mustache.
His features are smooth for now, and his youth is still apparent; however given time in the sun he gains freckles. His eyes are already craggy around the edges, no doubt as he ages these will deepen and increase. His eyes change color depending on his mood, however are usually an equal blend of green and gold or blue... or silver...
Märin wears a blue and silver doublet with a crescent moon adorning it. He has decorations on his lapels declaring that he a high rank of some kind (ambassador for those who know it). Under his tunic is a chain mail shirt of mostly black rings with the occasional gold fleck scattered throughout it. His shield bears a triple crest: the left upper corner depicts the standard of the Torana kingdom (a black sparrow on a red field), and the upper right the standard of the Sunlit (stylized dragon head rearing from a sunburst). However, the majority of his shield is dedicated to Illynallah's sigil - the lightning bolt admit a swirling whirlwind.
He wields a variety of weapons. However, his favored weapon is Dalshai Dol, the Dal-blessed, silver short sword. He carries several other named weapons including the short swords: "Torana's Trust", "Kiss of Illynallah", and the mechanized sword "Our Lady of Storms". His most recent acquisition is the great hammer that he has dubbed: "Monster Hammer" for lack of a better name. This hammer was taken from the corpse of one of Garthern's mongers.
Personality:
Chivalrous and stalwart, Märin has been trained as both a knight of the realm and a soldier. However, his Kêrath lineage prevents him from being completely content in the cities of humans. This restlessness is often exhibited in his desire to sleep outside whatever accommodations the Company has managed to secure. He is also not comfortable in enclosed spaces for long periods of time.
As with many of his father's people, Märin has a great sexual appetite and the fortitude to back it. Although he does not seek out bed-mates on a constant basis, he is more than happy to join with someone if the opportunity presents itself. Fortunately for him, Tsar'Lena understands this need in the Kêrath.
He has proven himself to be fearless (or crazy) in the battles. Elias is an experienced tactician and often takes that role prior to battles. In the matter of leadership, he is torn between the military standards of humans and the collective leadership style of the Kêrath. This indecision has become more apparent as the others look more often to him for leadership decisions.
As a devote follower of Illynallah, his honor is absolute. He endeavors at all times to follow the code of Illynallah. Even in the face of a mortal enemy, he will not attack a helpless foe or from the back. If an enemy were to surrender, Märin will accept and the enemy dealt with according to whatever punishment is set upon them.
One of his greatest concerns is to ensure Tsar'Lena's happiness.
Known History:
(Not complete. Basically what happened just prior to him joining the Company, and the travels while in the Company. Doubt anyone would want to read two hundred plus years of history).
Märin’s heritage is rare as few kêrath go outside their tribes to intermix and fewer still interact with humans enough to have relations with them. He was born in the Abcorn jungle in the northern part of Gramera’ger to Reeptoras, a Kêrath shaman and Elder, and Elisah, a human. (He is not aware of the identity of his father). He stood out from his people because he had a non-kêrath mother. He was raised for the first part of his life in the Abcorn Jungle, the ancestral home of his father's people. He grew up with Kar'ras, and Illee'nah and they consider each other siblings.
Shadowflame destroyed when he was barely out of adolescence, and he like all the others of his race, felt the jungle. They wound up in the forest north of Torana and Kerter, where the Itok reside.
When his mother wanted to rejoin her people, took them to the nearby human kingdom of Torana, where she became one of the Queen's ladies-in-waiting. Elias joined the Toranan military and became a royal guard. His mother lived long enough to see him as a member of the Royal Guard, and then died of extreme old age. He lived there for over a century, and proved his valor by leading a company who took down the notorious brigand "The Crimson Fist", a member of the Bloody Hand. This was how he was promoted to lieutenant. He found Illynallah during this time, becoming one of her Wardens. During a civil war, Elias was promoted again, this time to lieutenant. His company and he were promoted to the Toranan Royal Guard.
That was now more than a century ago and despite his record, Elias was not promoted again, suggesting a human-bias within the realm.
Illynallah bade him go with a stranger on a holy quest, so Elias volunteered to lead a small group to aid Rylian in his quest to seek out Princess Ophelia. Originally it was thought that he was the only one to survive the journey through the mist. However, his Sargent Nathans also survived. He traveled through the Dream and met companions therein.
These became the founding members of the Company. One of those he met was his beloved Tsar'Lena, the Tsar of the Sunlit Scalla.
For a time the others in the Company were looking to Elias for leadership decisions. He took to the role without complaint; however took a more Kêrath-like approach to it rather than a military one. When a decision was necessary, he usually sought the others' opinions and got a collective decision. In battle, he will often give orders without thinking about it, and has discovered more and more often the others listened to his advice. This phenomenon faded somewhere between the attack on the drows' mountain in the Illumination realm and returning to Gramera'ger at last.
During the Overseer's realm, Elias was one of those declared a 'champion' of the coliseum. There were several others who were declared as such, including Borin and Valkair, both of whom would become part of the Company.
When they awoke from the Dream they learned the years within had been to train their minds and strengthen their resolve so they might close the Gates leading to the Shroud, the origin of all corruption.
Upon returning to Gramera'ger, Elias found himself immersed in trouble for coming back with no princess, and behind the person who actually rescued her. Though he had permission to leave, the strangers and general mess he returned in caused an uproar. Initially intending to stay in Torana when the others left to search for Kyzer and Armand, each of his companions reminded him of his duty not only to the king but also to them and their quest.
When Tsar'Lena came to him during the night, Elias finally concurred with the others. He went to the king, taking a few bottles of wine. After a brief 'discussion' (plus several bottles of wine), the king realized a new position for Elias in the form of ambassador. Torana's first official ambassador. The perfect way to ensure the soldier of two centuries did not continue to plague the king with his intimidate knowledge of royal secrets AND make a strong political connection with the rising power of dragons.
<more to come>... fight with Kyzer, Sundowner's library, Rite of the Phoenix....
The Company closed the first gate with ease.
During the first part of the Company's foray into the Shroud, Elias stayed with the others, and assisted them dealing with the troubles of Brittany's mountain. Tsar'Lena and he were separated early on, winding up being trapped in a 'cube maze', and eventually encountering Waterrush, and Valkair, and the four of them were drawn into a combat with an octopus. During the conflict, all were dropped into a bay and thus began their adventures in Franci. Waterrush was killed during this fight, leaving Valkair, Tsar'Lena and Elias to explore the city of the Third Continent. After fighting a banshee and defeating a corrupted deer, the three were separated and Elias transported to Oceana. So it was that Màrin alone who closed the second gate while the others were working to secure the third gate.
<more to come>...Oceana, Asylum, Rose's Garden, Gramera'ger, Atrumignem Arcis... Realm of Knowledge.
